Sweet Briar, Va. --- Vixen Softball dropped a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference contests to the visiting Bridgewater College Eagles on Tuesday afternoon at Vixen Softball Field.
In game one, SBC threatened to score in the bottom of the first inning. Megan Thompson (Newport News, Va./Warwick) drilled a leadoff single to right field and then stole second to put a runner in scoring position. Tessa Crawford (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) reached on an Eagle error, and although Crawford would steal second, the next two batters were retired to end the inning with BC leading 1-0.
The Eagles countered with four runs in the top of the second to pull ahead 5-0. While the SBC side and pitcher Cynthia Schuh (Tigard, Ore./Tigard) held the visitors scoreless in the third and fourth innings, a fifth inning surge pushed the game out of reach and the Eagles earned the 9-0 win.
Bridgewater took an early game two lead en route to their second victory on the afternoon. BC opened the game with four runs in the first, and then added a flurry of runs in the third inning to capture the game two win (18-0).
Sweet Briar turns around and hits the road on Wednesday, April 3. The Vixens have a 3:30 p.m. conference call at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va.
