Box Score SWEET BRIAR, Va. --- Sweet Briar College welcomed league newcomer and conference frontrunner Shenandoah University to Babcock Field on Saturday afternoon. The match up featured an SBC side eager to get back in the win column and a SU squad seeking sole possession of first place in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
The visiting Hornets jumped out of the gate as they opened the game with three unanswered goals. SBC's Olivia Hurt (Charlottesville, Va./The Covenant School) put the Vixens on the board at 23:46 and set the score at 3-1 in favor of the visitors. The Hornets countered a few minutes later to take a 4-1 lead.
Shenandoah controlled the tempo for the middle third of the half and the Vixen side warded off the attack through that ten minutes stretch. Then at the 10:23 mark Charlotte Davis (Alexandria, Va./The Field School) found a chink in the armor and scored to pull SBC within two (4-2).
Shenandoah closed out the half just as they started by scoring three unanswered tallies. At the break, SU held a 7-2 advantage over Sweet Briar.
In the second period, SBC reeled off three unanswered goals in a row by players Taylor Klos (Manson, Ohio/Manson), Reba Gagne (Old Lyme, Conn./Old Lyme) and and Davis, but the Hornets put in four scores to keep the game out of reach for Sweet Briar.
In front of a packed hillside at Babcock Field, Shenandoah upended Sweet Briar by the score of 11-5. Vixen Lacrosse returns to ODAC action on Wednesday, April 10. The team travels to Bridgewater College for a 4:30 p.m. conference game.
Today's game was designated as the Vixen Lacrosse Division III Week game. Division III Week is a National Collegiate Athletics Association initiative geared toward highlighting Division III student-athletes and their many accomplishments as scholars, athletes and citizens.
