SWEET BRIAR, Va. -- The Sweet Briar lacrosse team defeated Randolph, 17-8, in the opening of Old Dominion Athletic conference play Wednesday afternoon at Babcock Field in Sweet Briar, Va. 

The Vixens are now 3-3 overall and 1-0 in the ODAC while Randolph falls to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the conference. 

The Wildcats and Vixens went goal-for-goal in the early minutes of play. As Randolph's Taylor Riccardi scored first, only for Genny Kelley to respond. Randolph would notch two back-to-back goals to go up 5-3, with 7:29 remaining, before Allison McLamb would score the final goal of the half with 4:36 remaining and send the Vixens into the half only trailing by one, 5-4. 

McLamb picked up right where she left off, tallying the opening goal of the half to tie the game at five a piece with 27:54 remaining. Addie Moore gave the Wildcats their last lead of the game when she found the back of the net, with 23:19 remaining and the Wildcats were up a player off a Reba Gagne yellow card. 

The Vixens would score 10 unanswered goals to take a 15-6 lead with 10:00 left on the clock. Randolph would find the net off a free position shot from Taylor Klevenz, but SBC would respond with two more goals before the final 17-8 victory. 

SBC was lead by Kim Orchowski who had five goals, while Monica Ewansik and Kelley both had two assists. Emily Williams got the victory in goal for the Vixens as she had four saves on 12 shots. 

The Vixens controlled most of the game, winning 16 draw controls, 24 total ground balls and had 47 shots to Randolph's 16.

Sweet Briar returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Bridgewater (Va.) to face-off against the Eagles of Bridgewater at 1:00 p.m.
