EMORY, Va. -- The Sweet Briar softball team fell on the road 9-3 and 16-3 against Emory and Henry in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon in Emory, Virginia.
The Vixens fall to 2-8 overall and 0-4 in the ODAC, while Emory & Henry improves to 10-0 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
In game one for the Vixens, Amanda Terry started things for the Vixens, hitting a double on the left side, after advancing on sacrifice bunt from Tessa Crawford to third. Nene Jones would single up the middle to score Terry to give the Vixens a 1-0 lead.
Terry would double again, scoring Rachel Taitano in the top of the second, to take a 2-0 lead on Emory & Henry. Jones hit her first home run of the season to give the Vixens a 3-0 before the Wasps would tally three runs to tie the game and notch two runs in the following three innings to go on for the final 9-3 victory.
Cynthia Schuh had the loss in the diamond for the Vixens, with only two strikeouts and walking one.
In game two, the Wasps would tally 12 runs before Taylor Fischer would put the Vixens on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning. Sweet Briar would score again in the fourth as Kayla Dooms would cross the plate on a Schuh single on the third base side. Terry would score the Vixens final run off of Halford's double up the center in the fifth before the final 16-3.
Tessa Crawford, Halford and Tosha Brown had doubles in the loss for the Vixens.
Katie Grimm got the victory for the Wasps only allowing eight hits and walked two Vixens. Molly Langford took the loss for SBC walking two, striking out one and allowed one homerun while in control.
The Vixens return to the diamond when they travel Lynchburg and face-off against the Randolph Wildcats in a doubleheader with the first pitch coming at 1:00 p.m.
