Vixens Take Out Knights in Non-Conference Game

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar lacrosse defeated Southern Virginia, 18-6, in a non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon at Babcock Field in Sweet Briar, Virginia. 

The Vixens improve to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in the ODAC, while Southern Virginia falls to 0-9 and 0-2 in the CAC. 

Sweet Briar would score four unanswered goals before the Knights would tally two back-to-back goals to make it 4-2 with 20:56 left in the first half.

With a one-man advantage Genny Kelley would tally a goal to go up 5-2. Southern Virginia would pull within two, as Rainey Whitworth would score on a free position shot, 5-3. The Vixens responded and would scored six unanswered goals – Kelsey Barta had two of the six.

The Knights would tally their last goal of the half from Bradshaw and the Vixens would close out the half tallying two more goals, to go into the half leading 13-4.

The second half, saw Sweet Briar tally three unanswered goals, to take a 16-4 lead, as the Knights would only tally two goals from Bradshaw and Whitworth before the final 18-6.

Emily Willams gets the win between the posts for the Vixens, she had four saves on 10 shots. The Vixens outshot the Knights 35-13 and had 18 draw controls.

Kelley and Barta led the Vixens with four goals a piece and Kimberly Orchowski had four assists in the victory for the Vixens.

The Vixens host Ferrum Thursday in a make-up non-conference game, at 4:00 p.m. at Babcock Field in Sweet Briar, Virginia.
