Box Score SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar lacrosse team fell to Ferrum , 13-12, in a non-conference game Thursday afternoon at Babcock Field in Sweet Briar, Virginia.
The Vixens fall to 4-5 overall and remain 1-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Ferrum improves to 8-4 and 3-1 in the USA South Conference.
Sweet Briar had a 12-8 lead with 13:17 remaining in the game before Ferrum would tally five unanswered goals to take the game.
Ferrum would strike first, before the Vixens would score four goals to take a 4-1 lead with 16:56 remaining in the first half. Ferrum would pull within one goal, as Courtney Hamm and Catie Vance would score two goals, 4-3. Shannon Brown scored the final goal in the first half as the Vixens would go into the half leading 7-4.
The Panthers would slowly cut into the Vixens lead, as Brown tallied a hat-trick in the span of five minutes to make it 10-8 with 18:45 remaining. Dayze Gaulin would have back-to-back goals for the Vixens to extend their lead 12-8 with 13:17 left. The Panthers notched five unanswered goals to take the 13-12 victory.
Allison McLamb, Kelsey Barta, Allison Hassard, and Gaulin each had two goals for Sweet Briar, Emily Williams had three saves in the loss.
The Vixens remain at home when they host Guilford in an ODAC game Saturday at Babcock Field at 1:00 p.m.
