Tennis Downs Bridgewater To End Spring Break On High Note

Box Score

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.- In a very back and forth match, the Sweet Briar College tennis team took down Bridgewater College, 5-4, on Friday morning at the Shipyard Racket Club on Hilton Head Island, S.C.

The day started with the Eagles defaulting on court three doubles. Then the court two pairing of Samantha Yew and Anna Colvin downed Ashley Price and Shannon Quinn, 8-5.

Bridgewater also defaulted on court six singles, which meant the Vixens started singles with a 3-1 lead.

The first singles match to finish was court one, where AJ Lukanuski bested Stephanie Barton, 7-6(4), 6-2.

The match was clinched for Sweet Briar in the fourth flight when Yew outlasted Quinn, 7-5, 3-6, 10-0.

This is the first time Sweet Briar has beaten Bridgewater since the 2010 ODAC tournament. After falling to the Eagles 6-3 in the season finale, the Vixens turned things around four days later in the ODAC Quarterfinals where they won by the same score line. That season was the first of two in a row that the Vixens reached the ODAC semifinals under Head Coach Teresa Boylan.

The tennis Vixens will now return to campus and take on Randolph-Macon this Tuesday starting at 4 p.m.
