Box Score ROANOAKE, Va.- On Thursday afternoon, the Sweet Briar College tennis team traveled to rival Hollins University. Hollins emerged victorious, 8-1.
Despite the score, there were close matches throughout the entire contest. Gina Rutledge picked up the Vixens only win of the day with her three-set victory over Jhovanna Salmeron on court two. The Germanton, N.C. native rebounded after dropping the first set, 2-6, by winning set two, 7-6, and the third-set tie break, 1-0.
Court one doubles saw AJ Lukanuski and Rutledge push Gaelin McLeod and Wibecka Oliver to the limit before eventually falling, 8-9.
The other close match came on court four, where Samantha Yew and Neha Batool battled. Yew won the first set, 6-2, before dropping the final two sets, 1-6, 0-1.
The Vixens will conclude their 2016 campaign on Sunday at Virginia Wesleyan College. The match is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. start.
