SWEET BRIAR, Va.- It was Senior Day for the Sweet Briar College lacrosse team as they hosted Virginia Wesleyan College on Wednesday evening. The visiting Marlins emerged victorious in the contest, 14-2.
It began raining just as the game started and the first ten minutes were played in a torrential downpour. That didn't hinder the Marlins, who scored three times in the opening 10 minutes of play.
The Vixens two goals were scored in the first half on unassisted efforts by Reba Gagne. The Old Lyme, Conn. native finished with three ground balls, a draw control, and a caused turnover. Gagne finished her senior campaign with 16 goals and 57 for her career. Gagne also registered 12 assists during her time at Sweet Briar.
Emily Williams had a great game in goal for the Vixens as she faced 37 shots and made 14 saves.
Before the start of the match, the lacrosse team honored their nine graduating seniors. Gagne, Ashley Federico, Hannah Oybkhan, Lydia Fleck, Katie Tillson, Katie Torretti, Kristen Frey, Torrey Schwartz, and Charlotte Barbour were all recognized, along with their families, for their dedication and commitment to the lacrosse team and Sweet Briar as a whole.
