Box Score AMHERST, Va.- The Sweet Briar College tennis team was in action for the second time in a week on Friday afternoon when they hosted Averett University. SBC put together a team effort for a hard fought, 6-3, victory.
Doubles play was highlighted by first-year Emily Wandling and junior Samantha Yew picking up an 8-1 victory on court two. Averett defaulted on doubles court three and singles court six, so the Vixens began singles play in need of just two victories.
Wandling and Yew were able to provide those points for Sweet Briar with nearly flawless victories on courts three and four. Wandling took down her opposition, 6-0, 6-0, and Yew notched the win on court four, 6-0, 6-1.
First-year Lexi Culley picked up her first collegiate victory, downing Ashley Thornton, 6-0, 6-0, on court five.
With the win, SBC moves to 3-1 on the young season and will get back to conference action when they travel to Randolph-Macon on Thursday, March 2, for a 3:30 p.m. start.
