SWEET BRIAR, Va.- With the winds gusting and temperatures plummeting outside, the Sweet Briar College tennis team hosted Ferrum College inside the Upchurch Field House on Wednesday afternoon. SBC made the most of the home court advantage and cruised to an 8-1 victory.

Sweet Briar has dominated the head-to-head series against Ferrum since the 2009-10 season with a perfect 5-0 record and a combined scoreline of 40-5.

Doubles play started the day and the pairing of Des'rae Davis and Lexi Culley did their best to set the tone for SBC, winning 8-0 on court three. Emily Wandling and Samantha Yew picked up their fifth win together on court two, 8-1, over the paring of Billie Quesenberry and Autum Murray-Burns.

AJ Lukanuski started singles play strong for the Vixens, taking court one over Morgan Scott, 6-2, 6-2. Finishing up quickly after was Wandling on court three with a 6-0, 6-0 clean sweep of Murray-Burns. 

Senior Gina Rutledge sealed the team victory for Sweet Briar with a 6-2, 6-4 drubbing of Alexandria Dixon on court two. 

With the overall match decided, courts four-six were played as eight-game pro sets. Yew and Culley both made quick work of their opponents, winning 8-1 on courts four and five respectively.

On court six, first-year Lacey Tucker picked up her first collegiate victory with an 8-2 win over Ferrum's Casey Hawkins.

SBC will return to action on Tuesday, March 28, with a trip to Old Dominion Athletic Conference foe Roanoke.
