Softball Opens Homestand Against Bridgewater

SWEET BRIAR, Va.- The Sweet Briar College softball hosted Bridgewater College on Saturday afternoon in what was the first of three conference series over a four day span. The Eagles swept both games from SBC, 9-0 and 13-0.

Game One

The Eagles limited SBC to just three hits in game one and junior Erica Orr accounted for two of them.

The best chance for the Vixens to get on the board came in the bottom half of the third inning after Orr was hit by a pitch and junior Chelsea McKinney singled. The pair then advance a bag each on an error during the play. The next batter was Kayla Dooms, who earned a free pass to load the bases. Unfortunately junior Taylor Fischer was unable to take advantage of the scoring change and grounded out.

Game Two

Dooms took to the circle for game two, pitching all five innings. Unfortunately her counterpart, Carolyn Campbell, was up for the challenge and limited the Vixens to just two hits and one walk.

Those two hits were recorded by McKinney and first-year Starr Woods. That marks Woods' first collegiate hit and it came in a pinch hitting situations during the bottom of the fifth inning.

SBC will be right back to action tomorrow, with a doubleheader against Roanoke. First pitch of game one is schedule for 1:30 p.m. The Vixens will round out their homestand against Lynchburg on Tuesday.
