Tennis Drops Close Match At Emory & Henry

EMORY, Va.- Playing its second conference match of the week, the Sweet Briar College tennis team traveled to Emory & Henry College for a Friday afternoon match. The Wasps won a close, back-and-forth match, 5-4.

SBC opened the match with one win in doubles play as Samantha Yew and Emily Wandling won their tenth match of the year together and fourth in-a-row. The pairing won court two, 8-4.

Yew and Wandling added two more wins for the Vixens, as they won their singles matches. Wandling continued her hot run of playing, taking down Liz Graham on court two, 6-4, 6-3. The first-year is now 7-2 in conference duals, 6-1 on court two, and has won five-straight matches.

On court four, Yew bested Bri Pierce, 6-2, 7-6. A junior from the Bronx, Yew now has 10 singles wins this year, the most for a single season in her career.

AJ Lukanuski also picked up point for Sweet Briar, taking court one in quick fashion. The junior downed Lauren Riner, 6-3, 6-1.

The tennis team will conclude its regular season on Wednesday, April 26, with a trip to Shenandoah University. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
