Tennis Ends 2017 Regular Season With Win At Shenandoah

WINCHESTER, Va.- The Sweet Briar College tennis team ended its 2017 regular season on a high note by taking down Shenandoah University. The Vixens were the stronger side from the start, winning the match 6-3.

The win is Sweet Briar's first against Shenandoah since the Hornets joined the Old Dominion Athletic Conference in 2012.

For the first time all season, AJ Lukanuski and Emily Wandling paired up for doubles and earned SBC a point on court one. The first-time pairing took down Morgan Fuqua and Melodie Madison, 8-2. On court two, Gina Rutledge and Samantha Yew beat Alyssa White and Emma Crue with ease, 8-1.

In singles play, Lukanuski bested White on court two, 7-5, 6-1. Not to be outdown, Rutledge was equally efficient on court three. The senior defeated Madison, 6-4, 6-2. 

Yew provided SBC with its easiest singles win when she took down Crue 6-2, 6-0 on court four. The junior ends the regular season with 11 singles victories. Yew's victory sealed the match win for Sweet Briar.

The Vixens final point of the match was won on court five by Des'rae Davis. The senior out-played Denise Vollmer and won 6-4, 6-3.
