Vixens drop Hornets in 5-1 victory

SWEET BRIAR, Va. — After being moved inside due to rain, the Sweet Briar tennis team rolled to a 5-1 victory over Shenandoah in the Upchurch Field House on Tuesday.

Senior AJ Lukanuski (Richmond, Va.) and sophomore Emily Wandling (Mechanicsville, Va.) opened the evening with an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles, while seniors Anna Colvin and Samantha Yew (The Bronx, N.Y.) earned a tight 8-6 win at No. 2.

As singles play opened with the Vixens leading 2-1, Wandling pushed Sweet Briar to a 3-1 advantage by topping Alyssa White 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1.

Lukanuski topped Madison Hansen 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2, while Yew clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 3 over Melodie Madison.

Wandling improved to 11-10 on the season, while Lukanuski saw her mark rise to 10-6.
