Colvin earns two wins; Vixens drop 7-2 decision to Marlins

SWEET BRIAR, Va. — Senior Anna Colvin picked up a pair of victories on Sunday at the Gymnasium Tennis Courts as the Vixens fell 7-2 to the visiting Virginia Wesleyan Marlins.

Colvin and her doubles partner, senior Samantha Yew (The Bronx, N.Y.) kept the Vixesn from being shutout in doubles play, with a 9-8 (9-7) victory over Katie Staman and Courtney Simmons at No. 2 doubles.

Singles action saw Colvin fight for a 6-4 opening set victory at No. 4, before cruising to a 6-2 victory in set two to top Simmons in straight sets.

Yew battled at No. 3 singles, coming back from a set one loss to Staman, to earn a 6-2 victory in set two before falling in the third set 10-7.

Sunday marked the first of three matches this week for the Vixens, who will host Randolph-Macon on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in ODAC action.
