AUBURN, Ala. — The Sweet Briar NCEA team earned points against No. 5 TCU and No. 1 Auburn at the Auburn University Equestrian Center on Friday, as the Vixens were topped 5-3 by TCU and 6-2 by host Auburn.
The Vixens opened the day against No. 5 TCU, opening the dual in fences.
Sweet Briar junior Lily Peterson (Ashland, Va.) opened the day with an 83 on Cartoon, a score that would hold for the Vixens' first point of the day.
First-year Sophia Kane (Carbondale, Colo.) rode Leo to an 81, which defeated Isabella Baxter's 79 for the second Sweet Briar point of the day.
First-year Kacie Freeburg (Orlando, Fla.) scored a 75 on Jones, while sophomore Maggie Fraley (White Haven, Pa.) tallied a 77 on Pilot. The Horned Frogs' Alex Beneson earned a point against Freeburg and Raegan Rast picked up a second TCU point against Fraley.
After an even 2-2 showing against TCU in fences, the Vixens opened flat with a 78 by junior Katie Balding (Williamsburg, Va.) on Fleet. Wynne Weatherly earned the point on Fleet for TCU with an 88.
Sophomore Charlotte Hadley (Tiverton, R.I.) won the third and final point of the day for the Vixens by scoring an 82 on Millie.
Kane was edged 90-86 on Changoo by Beneson, while Fraley scored a 76 on Lego. Misty Redd, of TCU, scored an 84 on Lego to earn the third point in flat for the Horned Frogs.
Against the No. 1 Auburn Tigers, Balding recorded a 94 on the first ride of the dual. Balding's impressive 94 on Fleet in flat, was edged by a MOP showing by McKayla Langmeier of Auburn, who scored a 97.
Fraley was the second Sweet Briar rider against the Tigers and earned a point for the Vixens by posting an 87 on Swag.
First-year Maggie Saunders (Troy, Va.) scored a 76 on Sully and Kane recorded an 85 on Vinnie, as their Auburn counterparts earned team points.
Fences saw the Vixens earn one point when Balding scored an 80 on Cento as the fifth fences rider of the meet.
Peterson scored 75 on Ducati, Kane recorded a 74 on Karl and Fraley rode Rico to a 77.
Sweet Briar returns to jumping seat action on Saturday morning, meeting New Paltz in a neutral site event at Auburn.
