Lechner wins first ODAC match; Guilford edges Vixens

SWEET BRIAR, Va. — Sophomore Ruth Lechner earned her first-ever ODAC singles victory on Saturday afternoon, as the Vixens fell 5-4 to the visiting Guilford Quakers at the Dennis Van Der Meer Tennis Center.

Sweet Briar's (2-14, 0-9 ODAC) first team point came at No. 1 doubles, where the junior duo of Emily Wandling (Mechanicsville, Va.) and Lacey Tucker (Swansboro, N.C.) toppled Makayla Mclaurin and Delaney Taylor 8-1.

Trailing 2-1 entering singles play, the Vixens opened with Wandling cruising to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Mclaurin to even the team score at 2-2.

The Quakers picked up a third point at No. 6 singles, while Lechner (Baltimore, Md.) earned a 6-3, 6-1 win over Megan Kimpel at No. 4 singles. Lechner's win was the first conference singles victory of her career.

Guilford gained a 4-3 advantage with a win at No. 5 singles, before Tucker won in two sets at No. 3 singles over Olivia La Ganza. Tucker won a tight 7-6 (7-4) opening set, before earning a convincing 6-1 win in the second set.

The Quakers clinched the match with a three-set victory by Taylor at No. 2 singles.

Sweet Briar begins its season-ending three-match road trip on Monday with a 3:30 p.m. opening serve scheduled at Ferrum.
