FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Day two at the 2019 ITA Division III Southeast Regional, hosted by Mary Washington, will see three Vixens in semifinal matches after the most successful opening day of regional action for Sweet Briar since the 2014-15 season.
Sweet Briar will send the duo of senior
Emily Wandling (Mechanicsville, Va.) and first-year
Ruth de Souza (Marilia, Brazil) to the B Doubles semifinal, while first-year
Kate Kotany (Erd, Hungary) heads to the D Singles semifinal on Sunday.
Doubles action at the University Tennis Center got underway with de Souza and Wandling earning an 8-4 victory over Anya Gunewardena and Cilina Liu of Johns Hopkins. The pair continued an incredible fall season in doubles, winning a quarterfinal match against Haverford's Isabel Cossio and Clara Farrehi by an 8-2 decision.
Wandling and de Souza will play Christina Huynh and Amanda Ruci of Johns Hopkins in a semifinal match on Sunday morning.
In singles action, Kotany knocked off Virginia Wesleyan's Lyric Hinton 6-1, 6-1 in the round of 16. Kotany faced a battle in her quarterfinal match with Natalie Williams of Haverford, but escaped with a dominante third set and a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-1) victory. The semifinal match will see Kotany match-up with Sarah Dover of Salisbury.

Allison Wandling (Mechanicsville, Va.) fell 8-6 to Hannah Baxter and Sydney Soto of Salisbury and will meet Francesca Varela and Darian Yakhnis of Wilkes in the consolation quarterfinal.
The championship singles draw saw Johns Hopkins' Anjali Devireddy earn a 6-1, 6-2 win over de Souza. The consolation round of 32 matches de Souza with Irene Meng of Washington (Md.) on Sunday.
Allison Wandling dropped a 7-6, 6-3 decision to Grace Dignazio of Swarthmore and picked up a walkover win against Madison Hutchins of Washington and Lee to earn a spot in the consolation semifinals of the B Singles draw on Sunday.
Allison Wandling will play the winner of Christine Zalameda of Virginia Wesleyan and Jenna Skove of Stevenson in the consolation semifinal.
Franklin & Marshall's Samntha Perry knocked off
Emily Wandling 6-3, 6-7, 7-5, setting Wandling up with a consolation quarterfinal match against Nicole Shifflett of Bridgewater (Va.).
Day two of the ITA Division III Southeast Regional is slated to begin at 8 a.m.
