FELTON, Del. – The Sweet Briar NCEA team opened the 2021-22 season with a 5-3 victory over Lynchburg at the Dovington Training Center today.
The Vixens also came away with two Most Outstanding Performer nods, with sophomore
Rachel Perry (Rockville, Va.) in flat and junior
Kacie Freeburg (Orlando, Fla.) in fences.
The meet started off close, with both teams taking two points in flat. Perry was first to score for the Vixens, taking down Kelley McCormick 85-80.5 on Carlus. Her performance was followed up by Freeburg who worked with Maverick to overcome Taylor Herzog, 75-56.5.
Senior Britt Larson Jackson (Washington, D.C.) rode Sky and came up just half a point short against Emma Schweizer with a 69.5. After a re-ride on Lewy, sophomore
Emmy Longest (Hanover, Va.) came out with a final score of 56.5.
Sweet Briar pulled away in fences, securing two more points than the Hornets over the course of the meet. MOP Freeburg rode RR to victory to start for the Vixens, scoring a 74. Trying to mount a comeback, Lynchburg would score its own point with Emma Schweizer working with Patton to secure an 86 over Longest's score of 51. However, a 71 from Larson Jackson on Lewy, followed by first-year Paige Kennedy's first ever NCEA victory with an 82 on Tillie, secured the 5-3 victory for Sweet Briar.
