SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Sweet Briar tennis saw success on day one of the first weekend of the third annual Battle of the Blue Ridge as three doubles and pairings and three singles players advanced to the semifinals.
 
In doubles play the pairing of de Souza/Wandling first defeated Rabensdorf/Vasher of Piedmont in 8-0 before taking down Kimble/Steplemen of Shenandoah to advance to the semifinals. Kamara/Kotany triumphed over Mines/Willocks of Methodist 8-7(7-0), while Alfaro/Andrade overcame Trantham/Perry of Brevard 8-7(7-2).
 
In singles play junior Allison Wandling (Mechanicsville, Va.) defeated both Bri Laidman of Piedmont in straight sets 6-0, 6-2 and Piedmont's Imani Vincent also in straight sets 6-1, 6-3. Junior Ruth de Souza (Marilia, Brazil) also won bother her matches against Alli Kogoy of Brevard and Abbey Grave Venham of Piedmont in straight sets to advance up the bracket.
 
The third player from the Vixens into the semifinals is junior Sofia Andrade (Ecuador) after beating Dannie Evans of Piedmont and Alex Pratt of Methodist in straight sets.
