Box Score SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Two Sweet Briar tennis doubles pairings were crowned doubles champions in draw one and draw two during the first weekend of the third annual Battle of the Blue Ridge on Sunday, Sept. 12.
The pairing of de Souza/Wandling defeated Gish/Moody of Piedmont 8-2 in the morning to advance to the main draw finals. Against Combs/Garcia Molina of Shenandoah, the pair won by a set score of 8-3 to take the championship.
The Vixens also saw success in draw two doubles play with Kamara/Kotany taking down Cherwien/Hudak of Shenandoah, 8-2 and Teffey, E./Teffey, G. of Lynchburg 8-7(7-6) for that bracket's championship.
In singles play, junior
Ruth de Souza (Marilia, Brazil) advanced to the championship match after a victory against Christina Harris of Lynchburg, 8-2.
