FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Sweet Briar tennis made history at the Division III Women's Southeast ITA Regional Championships this past weekend.
With action taking place from Sept. 25-27, the Vixens turned out historic finishes with junior
Ruth de Souza (Marilia, Brazil) advancing to the semifinals of the main singles draw. Up until the semifinals, de Souza had only dropped one set throughout the entire tournament.
In doubles action, the pairing of de Souza/Wandling also made history by advancing to the semifinals in the main draw for the first time in program history.
Highlights
- Also playing well at regionals was junior Sofia Andrade (Latacunga, Ecuador) as well as the pairing of Andrade/Alfaro, who advanced to the semifinals.
- This is the best showing that the Vixens have had at the ITA Southeast Regionals in program history, with numerous players making it into quarterfinal and semifinal rounds in various draws.
What's Next
Tennis will return home for the second weekend of the third annual Battle of the Blue Ridge, Oct. 9-10.
