GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Sweet Briar swim team (8-4, 6-3 ODAC) sits tied for sixth place with 81 points halfway through the 2022 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Swimming Championships.
The Vixens started Friday off with five preliminary races, the 200-yard freestyle relay, the 500-yard freestyle, the 200-yard IM, the 50-yard free, and the 400-yard medley relay.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of senior
Rachael Mills (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.), junior
Peyton Murphy (Norfolk, Va.) and first-years
Jillian Lewis (Ellicott City, Md.) and
Mary Catherine Warner (Virginia Beach, Va.) came seventh with a time of 1:48.41 and dropped time off their finals race with a 1:48.41.
First-year
Acadia ElzHowe (Georgetown, Texas) punched her ticket to the B final of the 500-yard freestyle after finishing 10th with a time of 5:22.05. ElzHowe would go on to improve upon her time in the finals, finishing the race in 5:14.66.
Seven Vixens swam in the 50-yard free with Murphy, Warner and Mills finishing in 32nd through 34th places, respectively, followed closely by senior
Elizabeth Sanford (Charlotte, N.C.) in 37th and sophomore
Devin Montgomery in 38th. First-year
Halle Moore (Waldorf, Md.) finished her first ODAC Championship race in 44th place with a time of 30.52, while senior
Taylor Shaw came in 55th.
Sweet Briar closed out the day with the finals race of the 400-yard medley relay, which saw the relay team Murphy, sophomore
Kass Carpenter (Mechanicsville, Va.), ElzHowe and Lewis approve upon their sixth-place preliminary time of 4:21.36 with a 4:17.17.
Highlights
- ElzHowe captured her fourth program record in the 500-yard freestyle with her time of 5:14.66.
- Lewis completed her first individual race of the championships, the 200-yard IM, in 2:33.56 for 30th place.
- Warner, Mills, Sanford and Moore all captured new season-bests in the 50-yard freestyle with times of 27.19, 27.69, 28.17 and 30.52, respectively.
