GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Sweet Briar swim team (8-4, 6-3 ODAC) finished the 2022 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships in seventh place out of twelve teams with 165 points. First-year
Acadia ElzHowe (Georgetown, Texas) was named All-ODAC First Team.
Sunday's preliminary races started with sophomore
Kass Carpenter (Mechanicsville, Va.) coming eighth in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 19:53.41. Meanwhile, first-year
Gaby Aparicio (Quetzaltenango, Guatemala) finished in 12th with a time of 22:01.64.
In the finals of the event, ElzHowe would earn the sixth-place finish with a time of 18:29.86.
Carpenter also saw success in the 200-yard backstroke earning a 2:23.08 time in the preliminary to qualify for the B Final. Carpenter would go on to capture the 15th place finish overall.
Seven Vixens participated in the 100-yard freestyle with senior
Rachael Mills (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.),
Mary Catherine Warner (Virginia Beach, Va.) and senior
Elizabeth Sanford (Charlotte, N.C.) coming 29th, 30th and 31st respectively. Sophomore
Devin Montgomery (San Antonio, Texas) clocked a time of 1:04.81 to finish right behind them in 33rd, followed by senior
Lauren Jones (Danville, Va.) in 43rd, first-year
Halle Moore (Waldorf, Md.) in 44th and senior
Taylor Shaw (Virginia Beach, Va.) in 49th.
First-year
Jillian Lewis notched a time of 2:46.07 for a 19th-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke.
ElzHowe's best finish of the championships came in the 200-yard butterfly where she finished second with a time of 2:08.89, a new program record for the Vixens.
Sweet Briar finished the 2021-22 season up with a seventh-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The relay team of Mills, junior
Peyton Murphy (Norfolk, Va.), Carpenter and ElzHowe completed the race in 4:01.01.

- ElzHowe is the first swimmer from Sweet Briar to be named to an All-ODAC team since 2014.
