SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Sweet Briar tennis (6-2, 1-1 ODAC) fell in a hard-fought match to No. 13 Washington and Lee (7-1, 5-0 ODAC) by a score of 6-3.
The Vixens took the victory in the No. 1 doubles spot thanks to de Souza/Wandling's 8-4 win over Chalker/Mikos. However, the Generals would win the other two doubles matches to go up 2-1 into singles play.
Sweet Briar's two singles victories came thanks to junior
Allison Wandling who earned a 6-3, 7-5 win over Kaitlyn Chalker in the No. 4 spot and sophomore
Isabela Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) who took down Nell Covington, 5-7, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 in the No. 6 spot.
Despite losing the rest of the singles matches, the team put up a good fight, with the rest of the four matches going long. Junior
Sofia Andrade (Latacunga, Ecuador) fell in three sets by scores of 6-1, 2-6, 6-4, while both juniors
Ruth de Souza and
Nikhita Simhambhatla would need tiebreakers to decide set scores.
Additionally, reigning Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Ana Patino (Medellín, Colombia) brought Marta Mikos to extra games in the first set before falling, 7-5, 6-3.
Highlights
- The Vixens' three points marks the first time that an ODAC team has won three played matches against Washington & Lee in recent history.
- 6-3 is also the best Sweet Briar has done against the Generals since at least the 1999-2000 season.

The Vixens will be back at the Van Der Meer Tennis Center for matches against Bridgewater and Bluefield on Friday, March 18 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.
