Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. – The Sweet Briar College tennis team wrapped up its fall tournament season with victories in four out of six draws at the Goucher Invitational this past weekend.
The doubles pairing of A. Guilarte/Patino started action off with a 4-2, 4-0 win over Molly Michel and Bonnie Thomas of Dickinson in Round One of the Doubles A draw.
In Round Two, A. Guilarte/Patino took down Ellie Brignati/Emma Ward of Gettysburg by scores of 4-0, 4-3 (7-4) to advance to the championship.
Also competing in Doubles A was the team of
Lucia Bovard/
Isadora Lima. The duo first defeated Sofia McCoy/Tiffany Njemanze of Stevenson, 4-1, 4-1 before earning another 4-1, 4-1 victory, this time over Natalia Navarro/Meline Seggen of Goucher to meet A. Guilarte/Patino in the championship.
A. Guilarte/Patino came out on top of the Doubles A bracket with a 4-1, 4-2 win.
The Vixens also saw great success in the Doubles B draw thanks to sophomore
Atty Bestwick (Durham, N.C.) and first-year
Guusje van Eekelen (Heeze, Netherlands). The duo earned the 4-0, 4-3 victory over Kendall Halsey and Jenna Miner of Lebanon Valley before moving on to defeat Jessicat Townes and Aaliyah Ybarra of Goucher, 4-3 (7-2), 4-2 for a spot in the final.
Bestwick/van Eekelen earned Sweet Briar's second draw victory of the day when they took down Sara Jaklitsch and Maddie Lindquist of Dickinson, 4-0, 1-4, (1-0) 10-5.
Despite dropping her first singles match of the day, senior
Isabela Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) bounced back to defeat both Torrienne Emery of Stevenson and Katie Moore of Rutgers-Camden) 4-2, 4-0 and 4-0, 4-0, respectively for the Singles A consolation victory.
First-year
Juli Caracciolo (Los Cardales, Argentina) took down Rachel Haupt of Goucher, 4-3 (7-5), 4-1 before going on to defeat Alisa Steele of Dickinson, 4-0, 1-4, 1-0 (11-9) for a spot in the Singles B final.
In the Singles C draw, junior
Maria Caro (Bogota, Colombia) took home the victory. Caro started off with a strong 4-1, 4-0 win over Bella Martinez of Rutgers-Camden. She would then defeat Lucy Ingraham of Goucher by scores of 4-2, 4-1 before capping off the draw victory with the 4-2, 4-0 downing of Eden Lokov of Gettysburg.
First-year
Maggie Minton (Wytheville, Va.) earned victories over Yana Vaiman of Stevenson, Shoshi Dondes of Gettysburg and Dana Kleinman of Dickinson by scores of 4-1, 4-0, 4-1, 4-0 and 4-1, 1-4, 1-0 (11-9), respectively. Minton took home the fourth draw victory for the Vixens in the Singles D bracket.
Highlights
- Minton now holds a 5-0 tournament record in singles play this season.
- Sunday's tournament marked the first time that Bestwick/van Eekelen were paired together in their collegiate careers.
