Box Score ORLANDO, Fla. – The Sweet Briar College tennis team (6-0, 1-0 ODAC) kicked off spring break action this afternoon with a 7-2 win over the Transylvania University Pioneers (2-6, 0-0 HCAC).
The Vixens got out to a 2-0 lead thanks to doubles victories from No. 2 pairing I. Guilarte/Caro and No. 3 pairing Caracciolo/van Eekelen.
I. Guilarte/Caro took down Hayes/Rassenfoss, 8-1, while Caracciolo/van Eekelen competed in a slightly tighter match and took the 8-4 win over Duvall/Williams.
In singles play, both junior
Maria Caro (Bogota, Colombia) and first-year
Isadora Lima (Natal, Brazil) earned their victories in straight sets by scores of 6-3, 6-2 and 6-,1 6-1, respectively.
Junior
Ana Patino (Medellín, Colombia) mounted a comeback at the No. 2 position against Grace Gardner for the 3-6, 6-2, 12-10 win while first-year
Juli Caracciolo (Los Cardales, Argentina) also earned a hard-fought three-set victory over Maddy Williams at the No. 5 slot, 3-6, 6-1, 13-11.
Sophomore
Alex Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) helped Sweet Briar reach its victory with a win over Maria Hayes at the No. 3 spot due to retirement. Guilarte, who had taken the first 6-1, was in the middle of the third set action when her opponent retired.
Highlights
- Sweet Briar remains undefeated this season, currently holding a 6-0 record.
- Caracciolo, Caro, Lima and Patino all have not yet lost a dual singles match.
What's Next
The Vixens will see action against Hope and Connecticut College tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., respectively, before facing Franklin & Marshall on March 13th.
