FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Senior
Ana Patino (Medellín, Colombia) and junior
Alex Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) represented Sweet Briar College tennis today on day one of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Division III Southeast Regional Championship.
The duo contested three matches, one doubles and one singles match each to open up action at Mary Washington.
Play started with a doubles contest against No. 29 Mary Washington's duo of Broomall/Tharpe. It was a closely contested match with Sweet Briar eventually falling by a score of 8-5.
In singles play, Patino took Shloka Tambat of Catholic to three sets after taking set one, 6-3. Tambat would come out ahead in set two by a score of 6-2 before squeaking out a 10-8 victory in the tiebreak.
A. Guilarte faced off against Raine Weis of No. 18 Christopher Newport. The Venezuela native fell to Weis by set scores of 6-1, 6-1.
While the duo's time in the main bracket has concluded, matches in the consolation bracket are currently scheduled to take place tomorrow morning.
