MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – The Sweet Briar College tennis team (13-5, 7-1 ODAC) cruised past the Pennsylvania State University – Harrisburg Lions (12-7, 7-1 UEC) on the road, winning this morning's match 6-1.
The Vixens won all three doubles matches to take the doubles point. The duo of Bovard/Caracciolo were perfect in their No. 2 match against Lui/Shaub with a 6-0 victory. Bestwick/Minton defeated Dey/Fallon, 6-2, at No. 3, while Guilarte/Lima saw a 6-3 victory against DeSantis/Wootton at No. 1
In singles play, four members of the team won their matches in straight sets. Both sophomore
Maggie Minton (Wytheville, Va.) and junior
Lucia Bovard (Mount Pleasant, N.C.) conceded only two games total.
Minton took down Hailey Dey, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4 while Bovard was victorious against Sarah Shaub at No. 5 by set scores of 6-2, 6-0.
Junior
Alex Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) earned a 6-4, 6-2 win over Breanna DeSantis at the No. 2 flight while sophomore
Isadora Lima (Natal, Brazil) captured a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 3 against Anita Liu.
At No. 1 singles, sophomore
Juli Caracciolo (Los Cardales, Argentina) fought hard to earn a three-set, 6-0, 3-6, 6-2 win versus Allison Wootton.
Highlights
- This marks the first victory for Sweet Briar against Penn State Harrisburg in program history.
- Caracciolo is 5-1 in her career when singles matches go to an extra third set.
- Bovard extends her team-leading singles win streak to five.
