HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Sweet Briar College outdoor track & field team tackled its first day of competition at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by EMU.
Action kicked off in the mid-afternoon with the simultaneous running of the long jump and shot put events.
First-year
Veronica Barney (Leesburg, Va.) represented the Vixens in the long jump and placed 23rd with her distance of 4.20m.
In the shot put, junior
Jaiana Gray (Chicago, Ill.) led the way for Sweet Briar with her throw of 9.39m landing her in 17th. Sophomore
Quinn Gorman (Leesburg, Va.) was not far behind Gray in 20th thanks to her throw of 8.97m.
As the lone competitor in the 400-meter dash, senior
Alia Peets (Devonshire, Bermuda) earned the team's best finish of the day. Peets recorded a time of 1:07.86 to place 16th.
First-year
Electra McPherson (Madison Heights, Va.) concluded action for the Vixens with a showing in the 100-meter dash. McPherson completed the race in 13.87 to place 22nd.
Highlights
- Gorman's throw of 8.97m marks a new personal best for her in the shot put.
- Peets' time in the 400-meter dash broke the previous program record held by her of 1:08.77.
