ASHLAND, Va. – The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) has released its 2024-25 Academic All-State Team today, featuring six Sweet Briar College student-athletes.
Each school in Virginia is awarded six recipients who are of sophomore standing or higher and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 for the academic year while maintaining a roster spot on a varsity sport.
Selected for the team this year were seniors
Lara Jost (Würzburg, Germany),
Jillian Lewis (Ellicott City, Md.),
Amani Narang (Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India) and
Ana Patino (Medellín, Colombia), junior
Jaiana Gray (Chicago, Ill.) and sophomore
Maggie Minton (Wytheville, Va.).
Jost, a member of the field hockey program, completed the year with a 3.96 GPA as a chemistry native. On the field, she started in all 17 games for the Vixens and contributed two goals and three assists for seven points as a defender.
Lewis is a dual-sport athlete who competed in both soccer and swimming while maintaining a 3.97 GPA as an engineering science major. The Maryland native led the soccer team with five goals and two assists for 12 points while also being named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team; a feat she also completed as a part of the swim program. As a swimmer, Lewis placed 16th in the 200-yard breaststroke at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships with a career-best time of 2:36.98.
As a member of the golf program, Narang earned accolades such as her third appearance on the All-ODAC Second Team, being named the ODAC/Va. Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year and earned her fourth-straight 18-Hole Pin Flag honor at the ODAC Championship. Additionally, the India native was named to the CSC Academic All-District At-Large Team and earned a spot on the VaSID All-State Second Team. As a business major, Narang finished the 2024-25 academic year and her collegiate career with a 4.0 GPA.
Both Patino and Minton represent the tennis program. Patino, this year's Crysler Award winner, earned a 3.94 GPA as an engineering science major. She was also named to the All-ODAC Second Team at No. 1 doubles. Minton also earned a spot on the All-ODAC Second Team at both No. 5 singles and No. 3 doubles while maintaining a GPA of 4.0 as a biology and engineering science double major.
Gray is a member of the inaugural track & field team and currently holds the program record in the indoor shot put, outdoor shot put and outdoor hammer throw. The Illinois native holds a 3.66 GPA as a double major in business and economics.
This marks the second-straight
VaSID Academic All-State honors for Lewis, Narang and Patino and the first for Gray and Minton.
