Box Score NORFOLK, Va. --- Game two of the four game road
stretch for the Vixens began in an auspicious manner on Wednesday
evening at the Trinder Center and Foster Field on the campus of
Virginia Wesleyan College. Sweet Briar College goalkeeper Lindsey
Wilson ('14/Bedford, Va.) and the Vixen defensive unit were
able to withstand the opening Marlin attack as the host team threw
nearly as many substitutions (14) at the Vixens as they did shots
(18) in the first half.
The Vixens weathered waves of attack, allowing only one goal
through the first 38 minutes of play. However, in the waning
minutes of the opening stanza three Marlins found the back of the
net, sending the Virginia Wesleyan side into intermission with a
four goals to none lead.
The Marlins opened second half play with an offensive
mindset. Marlin forward Jessica Edelman ('13/Voorhees, N.J.)
scored back-to-back goals within the first ten minutes of the
period. After an offside call against Virginia Wesleyan,
first-year SBC forward Emily Spivey
(Dillwyn, Va.) obtained possession of the ball and launched a shot
that aired high over the crossbar. On the ensuing Marlin
possession, four substitutions were made. Two of those
substitutions would go on to score the games final four goals.
Brittini Dennis ('14/Stephens City, Va.) poured on three
unassisted goals for the Marlins. And, with just under 12
minutes remaining in the contest, Caitlin Bishop a first-year from
neighboring Virginia Beach, tacked on one more tally for the
Marlins.
Despite the road loss, Vixen Soccer head coach Kevin Fabulich
saw signs of improvement from his squad. "Tonight we stepped
up our intensity level and worked better together as a team."
With the loss, the SBC record falls to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the
conference.
SBC travels to Guilford College for an 11am ODAC match against
the Quakers on Saturday, September 24.
