Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. --- First-year forward Hanna
Schiltz (Ashland, Mo.) knocked in two goals to lead Guilford
College past Sweet Briar College in Old Dominion Athletic
Conference women's soccer action on Saturday.
The Vixens, who have not played a game at Babcock Field in two
weeks, traveled to Greensboro in search of their first ODAC
win. The Quakers, who are coming off back-to-back over-time
ties against conference opponents, also had designs on a first
conference win. By the day's end, five different Quakers would
score en route to a 6-0 victory over the Vixens
Katie Oliver ('12/Crofton, Md.) helped put Guilford on the board
first when she chipped a ball into the Vixen 18-yard box that led
to Schiltz's first tally of the day at the 13:53 mark. Just
under 30 minutes into the half, Schlitz found the back of the net
again after taking on and beating Vixen goalkeeper Lindsey
Wilson ('14/Bedford, Va.). Ten minutes before halftime,
Jaclyn Nucci ('13/Gambrills, Md.) netted her second goal of the
season, giving the Quakers a three-goal advantage. Minutes
away from half time, senior Vixen defender Seanne
Weekes (San Jose, Calif.) was whistled for a yellow card.
The free kick led to a Quaker shot and Vixen save to end the
period.
In the second frame scoring started with Oliver, who this time
helped herself to a goal, beating the keeper for the unassisted
score. First-year Quaker Carma Whitlock-Almond (Bessemer,
N.C.) came off the bench in the second half and collected two
assists on finishes by Sarah Levitt ('13/Silver Spring, Md.) and
Rachel Harman ('12/Severn, Md.) in the 77th and 80th
minutes, respectively.
Wilson put in another solid effort between the pipes for the
Vixens as she made 11 stops in goal. Weekes took the lone
shot for SBC when she put a free-kick on goal in the 80th minute of
the game.
"We did not come out sharp for today's game," acknowledged Vixen
head soccer coach Kevin Fabulich. "We will take our day off,
get our legs back, re-group and be ready for our next game at
Bridgewater."
With the loss at Guilford, the SBC record falls to 1-5 overall
and 0-3 in conference play. After an early week match at
Bridgewater, the Vixens return to Babcock Field when they host the
Washington and Lee Generals on Saturday, October 1 at 12p.m.
