ASHLAND, Va. – The Sweet Briar IHSA team ended its fall season on a high note today at the Randolph-Macon Equestrian Center as the first-place team in the region. Senior
Chloe Kerschl (Lexington, Va.) became the fifth member of the team to qualify for regionals after a fifth-place finish in open fences.
Earning first-place finishes for the Vixens were sophomore
Paige Kennedy (Purcellville, Va.), senior
Jen Markey (Montpelier, Va.) and sophomore
Sarah Southard (Culpeper, Va.) in open flat, limit flat and novice, respectively.
Sweet Briar also nabbed three second-place finishes thanks to junior
Sita Moses (Dublin, N.H.) in intermediate flat, senior
Madeline Rucker (Midlothian, Va.) in pre-novice and first-year
Julianna McIntyre (Englewood, Fla.) in intro.
Sophomore
Nina Hugi (Chicago, Ill.) scored two fourth-place finishes on the day in intermediate flat and intermediate fences.
Highlights
- First-years Kate McLauchlan (Houston, Texas) and Marran Vansickle (Powhatan, Va.) also performed well at today's show with a fourth-place finish in limit fences and a third-place finish in limit flat, respectively.
- Kerschl also nabbed sixth place in open flat.
What's Next
The spring season will get underway on Feb. 5 when the Vixens travel to Mary Washington and the A. Elizabeth Morrison Equestrian Center.
