GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sweet Briar swimming (4-1, 2-1 ODAC) finished in fifth place out of eight teams at the Guilford Invite today, beating out Ferrum, Hollins and Warren Wilson.
Sweet Briar started the meet off with a 16th-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of senior
Rachael Mills (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.), sophomore
Devin Montgomery (San Antonio, Texas) and first-years
Jillian Lewis (Ellicott City, Md.) and
Halle Moore (Waldorf, Md.) completed the race in 1:59.88.
Earning an individual top-10 finish at the invite was first-year
Acadia ElzHowe (Georgetown, Texas), who swam the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.38 for ninth place.
ElzHowe finished in 19th in the 100-yard backstroke followed a few seconds later by junior
Peyton Murphy (Norfolk, Va.) and sophomore
Kass Carpenter (Mechanicsville, Va.) with times of 1:07.90, 1:10.37 and 1:10.59, respectively.
Finishing within the top half of the field in the 100-yard freestyle was ElzHowe in 27th with a time of 58.47 and Murphy in 44th with a time of 1:00.58.
As a team, the Vixens saw their best relay finish come in the 200-yard medley. Murphy, Carpenter, ElzHowe and Lewis finished the race in 2:06.57 to secure 10th place.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Montgomery finished tied for 43rd out of 88 with a time of 28.52.
Junior
Elizabeth Sanford (Charlotte, N.C.) and Mills finished 47th and 48th out of 65 total swimmers in the 200-yard freestyle with times of 2:28.76 and 2:29.30, respectively.
Highlights
- ElzHowe also finished first for Sweet Briar in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard IM.
- Sweet Briar's 200-yard medley relay time is nearly 5 seconds faster than the time swam earlier in the season against Ferrum and Greensboro.
