WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Sweet Briar IHSA team made waves in its first show with 11 total riders earning a top-5 placement in their respective classes, including two first place finishes.
Leading the Vixens was senior
Madeline Rucker (Midlothian, Va.) who already earned her spot at regionals on Feb. 27 thanks to a first place finish in the introductory class.
Also earning a first place finish was sophomore
Sarah Southard (Culpeper, Va.) who claimed the top spot in her IHSA debut in the novice class.
Sweet Briar also earned a pair of second place nods with sophomore
Shannon Carter (King George, Va.) in her first IHSA show in the limit flat class and senior captain
Chloe Kerschl (Lexington, Va.) in open fences.

Ashlee Hall (Purcellville, Va.), junior
Shannon Huth (Greensboro, N.C.), first-year
Ella Peterson (Ashland, Va.), sophomore
Emily Simmons (Fredericksburg, Va.), and first-year
Marran Vansickle (Powhatan, Va.) earned top-5 placements in their first IHSA Show.
Highlights
- Simmons earned a third place finish in the limit flat class.
- In the intro class, Hall placed third, while junior Sita Moses (Dublin, N.H.) placed fourth in the novice class.
- Sweet Briar saw Vansickle and Peterson place fourth and fifth in limit respectively, with Vansickle also placing sixth in limit fences.
- Sophomore Nina Hugi (Chicago, Ill.) earned a fourth place finish in intermediate flat and also competed in intermediate fences.
- Huth finished fourth in intermediate flat.
- Kerschl also nabbed the third place spot in open flat.

The Vixens will return home to host their own show at the Harriet Howell Rogers Riding Center on Oct. 3.
