CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Sweet Briar cross country team saw records go down as the team finished ninth at the JWU Wildcat XC Classic today in its last regular season race of the season.
As a team, the Vixens combined for a time a total time of 2:05.40 and averaged a 5k time of 25.08.
Sophomore
Angelyn Wiggins (Churchville, Md.) made a statement on the course, recording a new program record time of 21:11.6.
Junior Lilly Terwilliger (Fayetteville, Md.) finished right behind her, crossing the finish line at the 22:25.3 mark.
In their first 5k race of the season, senior
Evie Sparacio (Stroudsburg, Pa.) and junior
Savannah Anderson (Eau Claire, Wis.) earned times of 25:32.4 and 25:35.8, respectively.
Sophomore
Kae Babcock (Red Lion, Pa.) set a new personal best 5k time at 30:54.6, while senior Dani Peloso (Centreville, Va.) finished the race in 31:12.0.
Rounding out the field for the Sweet Briar was graduate student
Hannah Denson (Sanford, N.C.) who averaged a pace of 7:14.8 a kilometer to finish in a total time of 36:14.2.
Highlights
- Wiggins bested the previous program record by nearly a minute.
- Terwilliger gets in the record books in sixth after setting a new personal best and cutting down on her previous 5k time by close to a minute.
- Today's race marked Peloso's first 5k of her collegiate career and the first of the season for Denson.
