LEXINGTON, Va. – The Sweet Briar College swim team kicked off the 2024-25 season at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Relays today, finishing in ninth place.
In the first event of the day, first-years
Carlee Minyard (Jacksonville, Fla.),
Karissa Boyce (Red Rock, Texas) and
Emily Carter (Beckley, W. Va.) and sophomore
Jules Elliott (Norfolk, Va.) combined for a time of 1:13.35 in the 100-yard freestyle relay.
Senior
Mary Catherine Warner (Virginia Beach, Va.), Elliott and Carter followed that showing up with a 2:04.00 in the 3x50-yard backstroke relay.
The team then placed 16th in the 3x50-yard breaststroke relay as sophomore
Ella Scherrer (Simpsonville, S.C.) and seniors
Viya Atambayeva (Almaty Kazakhstan) and
Gaby Aparicio (Quetzaltenango, Guatemala) completed the event in 1:57.90.
A time of 5:04.89 was recorded by Warner, Scherrer, Aparicio and Elliott in the 400-yard freestyle relay while the Vixens placed both 17th and 18th in the 500-yard 50-100-150-200 relay.
Minyard, Warner, Scherrer and Aparicio formed the 'A' team whose time came in at 6:25.20 while the 'B' team of Boyce, Atambayeva, Elliott and Carter saw a time of 7:08.00
A time of 2:55.74 was earned by Warner, Atambayeva, Aparicio and Minyard who came together for the 200-yard medley relay.
In the 100-yard relay 4x25 underwater dolphin kick, Warner, Aparicio, Scherrer and Carter came together to record a time of 1:25.44 and finish in 16th.
Sweet Briar finished the meet with a 200-yard freestyle relay time of 2:45.41 as Minyard, Boyce, Scherrer and Atambayeva recorded individual leg times of 51.32, 36.63, 30.91 and 46.55, respectively.
Highlights
- Today marked the first collegiate meet for Boyce, Carter and Minyard.
- The majority of Sweet Briar's points were earned by the 3x50-yard backstroke relay team.
