BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Sweet Briar cross country team participated in the Hokie Open this evening, a 4k race hosted by Virginia Tech, which saw a new program record be set as the Vixens placed third.
First-year
Elaina Sherline (Morehead City, N.C.) was the highest finisher for Sweet Briar in the race, placing 12th with a time of 17:19.4.
Sherline was followed across the finish line by fellow first-years
Shiloh Thompson (Ruckersville, Va.) and
Ella Cate Johnson (Henderson, N.C.), who recorded times of 18:25.1 and 19:19.5, respectively.
Junior
Amanda Costa (Watertown, N.Y.) also competed in her first 4k race this evening and crossed the finish line at the 19:40.6 mark.
Highlights
- Both Sherline and Thompson topped the previous program record to put their names first and second, respectively, in the record books.
- Johnson and Costa also earned top-10 times in the program's 4k history.
What's Next
The Vixens will next compete at the NCAA Division III South Regional Championships on Nov. 15th.
