LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Sweet Briar College outdoor track & field team contested the Hill City Twilight today with events running all evening.
Sweet Briar turned in a well-rounded showing across track and field events, with several athletes delivering strong individual performances.
First-year
Tyasia Spencer (Fredericksburg, Va.) led the way on the track, placing 10th in the 100m with a time of 13.09, while also completing the 200m to finish 9th in 26.98.
Fellow first-year
Azshalay Utley (Columbus, Ohio) also doubled up, taking 18th in the 200m with a 30.95 and seeing an 8th-place finish in the 400m in 1:09.50.
In the middle-distance events, first-year
Elaina Sherline (Morehead City, N.C.) impressed with a 6th-place finish in the 800m, clocking 2:21.68, while junior
Mia Viccora (Fairfax, Va.) added a 14th-place finish in the same event with a time of 2:42.48.
In the field events, first-year
Elena Fomin (Middlesex County, Va.) delivered one of the top performances of the day, clearing 2.43m (7-11.5) to secure 3rd place in the pole vault.
Sophomore
Michaela Carr (Springfield, Va.) placed 9th in the hammer throw with a mark of 19.53m (64-1), while senior
Jaiana Gray (Chicago, Ill.) competed in the shot put, recording a 4th-place finish with a throw of 9.49m (31-1.75).
Highlights
- Spencer set a new program record in the 100m and 200m.
- Fomin bested her previous program record of 2.31m in the pole vault.
- Gray improved upon her previously set program record in the shot put today as well.

The Vixens will wrap up the season at the Liberty Twilight Qualifier on May 6th.
