RUSTBURG, Va. – The Sweet Briar IHSA team capture its fourth-straight Region 4 Championship today after competing at Liberty.
Senior
Anne Rucker (Midlothian, Va.), sophomores
Emmy Longest (Hanover, Va.),
Emily Simmons (Fredericksburg, Va.), and
Sarah Southard (Culpeper, Va.) and first-year
Julianna McIntyre (Englewood, Fla.) all earned first-place finishes in pre-novice, open flat, limit flat, novice flat and intro, respectively.
Five Vixens grabbed the second spot in the respective classes, including sophomore
Paige Kennedy (Purcellville, Va.) who, along with her top-3 fences finish, also captured third place in open flat competition.
Both junior
Sita Moses (Dublin, N.H.) and sophomore
Nina Hugi (Chicago, Ill.) closed out the day with second-place finishes in the intermediate flat class.
Highlights
- First-year Katelyn Jones (Richmond, Texas) finished in fourth in limit fences and sixth in limit flat.
- Among the five Vixens to capture second-place finishes were sophomore Shannon Carter (King George, Va.) in limit fences and first-year Emily Roberts (Goochland, Va.) in novice flat.
- Sweet Briar came away with the win with 43 points, breaking a tie with Randolph-Macon by having more top-5 show points than the Yellow Jackets.
What's Next
The Vixens will host region finals for individual qualifiers at the Harriet Howell Rogers Riding Center on Feb. 27 before heading to the St. Andrew's University Equestrian Center in Laurinburg, N.C. for the Zone 4 Championships on Apr. 9.
